Getting down a vertical trunk headfirst, or hanging along the underside of a horizontal limb, comes down to toes built with strong claws. Dense tree cover is the habitat it wants, and other species often turn up foraging alongside it in mixed flocks. Look at an adult male and there is a black stripe sitting behind and above the eye. Listen and you may catch a fast chipping call note. For nesting it takes tree cavities and holes, many of them originally carved out by woodpeckers or barbets. Photo
