@jolyonThe strategy shifting within Democratic circles points toward Pete Hegseth rather than Donald Trump when it comes to potential impeachment proceedings. Leaders remain hesitant about launching a third impeachment against Trump, yet if Democrats secure control of the House, Pete Hegseth faces the very real possibility of removal from office. Rep. Melanie Stansbury is pushing hard for his exit specifically because of his handling of the Iran conflict, characterizing him as a dangerous war criminal regarding his actions in that theater. It isn't just Democrats targeting him either; Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has already introduced a resolution demanding Hegseth's removal, accusing him of violating congressional war powers and conducting unlawful killings. For Democrats, focusing on Hegseth offers a path to challenge the Trump administration without engaging in another contentious impeachment fight centered on Trump himself. Despite this political pressure, the Pentagon continues to support Hegseth, while Donald Trump appears unwilling to replace him. Source: Semafor / Writer: Daniyal
