@BetanewsThe Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed the death of Priest Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, CSsR, after a heavy wooden cross detached from the main altar and struck his head while he was celebrating the Eucharist at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Dozens of faithful were inside the church, which sits in the southern section of the coastal city, and others followed the service through a live social media broadcast that recorded the structure collapsing onto the cleric. Attempts by attendees to help him right away could not prevent the impact from proving fatal. Hours later, the Cardinal Archbishop of Guayaquil issued a formal statement confirming the passing of the priest, who served as parish priest of the Perpetuo Socorro church in the vicaría centro, and expressing condolences and solidarity with the Redemptorist family, his relatives, and friends. #Ecuador #Religion
