The Jewish population in Germany saw a dramatic decline during the Nazi era, from approximately 530,000 in 1930 to just 15,000 by 1943. After World War II, the community slowly began to rebuild, reaching about 20,000 in 1945 and 27,000 in 1950. By 1990, the population had grown to 38,000, and after the fall of the Iron Curtain, it increased further to 53,000 in 1995 and 98,000 in 2000.
