Matt Cardona talked about his return to WWE for the John Cena tournament. He had a video call with Triple H, said he was interested in coming back but never got an offer. Triple H later texted and pitched the tournament, Cardona agreed thinking he'd rep TNA as Matt Cardona. Days before SmackDown, John Cone from Talent Relations texted about t-shirt approval and that's when he found out he'd be Zack Ryder.
