Zidane on Messi Ballon d'Or nomination

Zinedine Zidane was asked about Lionel Messi's Ballon d'Or nomination and what he said about it is the part worth sitting with. 39 years old, still counted among the best players on the planet, and Zidane's point is that people genuinely don't grasp how insane that is. "Honestly, people don't understand how crazy it is to still be among the best players in the world at 39 years old." Think about who he's out there competing against. Almost everyone from Messi's generation has been retired for years. Football asks your body to slow down, and he just doesn't. He keeps swinging matches, keeps being the protagonist, keeps leading like the age thing doesn't apply to him. For Zidane, the greatness isn't about the numbers or the trophies. It's the ability to keep pulling off things that shouldn't be possible anymore. Then came the vote question, and honestly there was no hesitation: "If I could vote 100 times, I would vote for Messi all 100 times." No doubt. No alternatives. Just Messi. What we might be watching is the closing stretch of a career football won't get to witness again for a long, long time.
