    🏛️Benjamin Franklin🏛️George Washington🏛️John Adams

    Founding Fathers of America list

Twenty names are on this roster, and what separates them is the job each one actually did. Benjamin Franklin, the oldest of the group, split his time between inventing things and representing the country abroad. Roger Sherman holds a distinction nobody else can claim: his name appears on all three of the founding documents. Samuel Adams was the figure behind the Boston Tea Party. George Mason carries the title Father of the Bill of Rights. George Washington led the Continental Army as Commander-in-Chief and later became the first man to hold the U.S. presidency. Richard Henry Lee put forward the resolution calling for American independence. John Adams followed Washington into the presidency as the second to serve. Paul Revere is the man tied to "The Midnight Ride." Patrick Henry gets remembered for one line above all: "Give me liberty, or give me death!" John Hancock's mark on history is the biggest signature anyone put on the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense. Charles Carroll outlived every other signer of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence as its principal author. John Jay became the first Chief Justice of the United States. Benjamin Rush earned the label Father of American Medicine. James Madison is called the Father of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Gouverneur Morris is credited with the final wording of the U.S. Constitution. Alexander Hamilton was the first to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. John Marshall left a major mark as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. And James Monroe rounds out the list as the fifth U.S. President.
