Zverev wins 2026 US Open over Shelton

Ben Shelton walked off Arthur Ashe with nothing to show for a final where he brought serious firepower and presence, and the American men's Grand Slam wait since Andy Roddick's 2003 US Open title now stretches at least one more year. Alexander Zverev was the one holding the trophy, his second of 2026, and honestly the résumé for the year is wild: semifinal at the Australian Open, champion at Roland Garros, finalist at Wimbledon, champion at the US Open. For years people wondered if he'd ever get the big one after all those painful near-misses. Now he ends 2026 with two Grand Slam trophies and command of the tour. Shelton is the guy American tennis will eventually be built around, and his time is coming soon. Heartbreak now, but he competed like he belonged on that stage.
