2024 Global Goose Population Stocks by Country

In 2024, the world's goose stocks, totaling an estimated 375.60 million birds across 42 observed countries, showed an immense concentration in China, which reported a staggering 332.17 million geese. This figure alone accounted for roughly 88.4% of the total calculated from available national data. Following China, Mozambique held the second-largest population with 16.47 million geese, while Myanmar ranked third with 5.86 million. Other nations with significant goose populations in 2024 included Russia (3.58 million), Egypt (3.52 million), Madagascar (3.01 million), and Ukraine (2.96 million). Türkiye reported 1.30 million geese, with Venezuela reaching exactly 1.00 million. Closer to the million mark were Iran (984,000), Taiwan (913,000), and Israel (882,000). Hungary's goose population was 628,000, the Philippines had 414,000, and Canada reported 335,000. France's goose stocks numbered 220,000, followed by Argentina with 175,000. Kazakhstan recorded 150,000 geese, South Africa had 147,000, and Paraguay rounded out the top 20 with 136,000. These numbers, compiled by Terra Cultiva using FAOSTAT 2024 data, represent the estimated count of live geese, not production output. Such data offers insight into how geese can be incorporated into diverse farming systems, often alongside crop cultivation and aquatic environments, contributing to rural livelihoods.
