MLB ABS challenge system 2026 overturned calls

The MLB changed forever, not because of players, but because of a new system that's exposing the calls. For 26 years, from 2000 through 2025, not a single ball or strike call was ever overturned. Not one. Every missed call stayed a missed call. Every wrong call stayed a wrong call. And nobody could do anything about it. Then 2026 happened. The ABS challenge system arrived, and baseball will never be the same. 5,686 overturned calls in ONE season. And this isn't just about fixing wrong calls. This system can flip the most crucial moment of any game in an instant. A full count with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. A perfect game with two outs in the ninth. A playoff elimination game. One overturned call. One completely different outcome. The power that used to belong exclusively to the umpire? It now belongs to the evidence and the players challenging the umpire's call. And the uncomfortable truth? Those 5,686 mistakes didn't start in 2026. They've been happening for decades, silently deciding games, series, and seasons without anyone being able to challenge them. The system didn't create bad umpiring. It just made it impossible to ignore. Baseball just became the most accountable sport on the planet.
