Crested Gecko facts and care appeal

A tail that doesn't come back is the detail that sticks with me about the Crested Gecko. These small reptiles, native to New Caledonia, have eyes, toes and facial features that read as genuinely distinct. Adhesive structures on those toes let them scale smooth surfaces without trouble. And when a threat appears? The tail drops. Unlike many other geckos, though, theirs never regenerates afterward. Add in their compact size and that whole package is why reptile keepers rate them so highly. So: does one of these end up in your home someday, or do you just admire from afar?
