Imran Khan sisters detention despite bail

Can a court order mean nothing once someone is already in custody? That's the question Rubina Khan is putting to the state, saying her sisters Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi are still locked up even though bail was granted. Since September the three have been picked up again and again, the family says, including under public-order measures that came after protests tied to the jailed former PM. Their account is that fresh detention orders keep appearing whenever a court moves toward letting the women out, so release never actually arrives. Some of the legal proceedings, meanwhile, were pushed back while they sat in custody. What bothers me is the logic of it: if courts order someone's release, can the state simply keep finding another way to detain them? Source: KhanShershah / Writer: Samuel
