    My Tender Matador 2020

The Queen's logic in My Tender Matador (Tengo miedo torero) is the thing I can't stop turning over: why side with fascists or communists when her people get ground down under either one. "If there's ever a revolution that includes us, I'll be there, front row." That's the line. The 2020 queer drama puts Alfredo Castro in the role of an aging travesti living in Santiago under Pinochet in 1986, and Leonardo Ortizgris plays Carlos, the young revolutionary she loves, who stashes materials tied to a plot against the dictator inside her house, one that didn't come off. What gets me is what comes after the talking. She walks right past a row of riot police with resistance materials in her arms, no speech, no big scene, just love and solidarity carrying her through. Forbidden love, survival, resistance in the shadow of a dictatorship, and the whole thing plays gentle, politically pointed, and genuinely hard to shake 🍿 #AlfredoCastro
