Steve Harvey is talking about the three years he spent living in his car before landing Family Feud, and the way his relationship with God shifted as time dragged on. He starts by saying that while he hated being homeless, he felt like God was showing him something, but after a month, he just told God he had it and gave him attention. By six months, he put both hands on the dashboard to lock in undivided attention. A year later, he got annoyed, asking what they were doing since he was already there. Two years in, he was done giving everything and asked what else God wanted. Three years in, he couldn't take it anymore because his parents never knew he was homeless while his ex-wife had twins. He called his daddy to ask if he could stay at his house for six months to get a job. Before he made that call, a phone was installed in his parents' attic with an answering machine. On the day he decided to give up, he called his own machine, and immediately after checking the message, Chuck Sutton from Showtime at the Apollo called him back.
