Joseph Kabila Kabange Goma FRN

GOMA marks a shift where James Swan, the head of MONUSCO, spent over three hours in direct talks with the Front for the Re-foundation of the Nation. The discussion covered the Doha peace talks, the new mandate for MONUSCO, the constitutional change project pushed by Tshilombo Félix, and reports on violations of the Kinshasa ceasefire. This meeting between James Swan and Joseph Kabila Kabange is framed as a strategic miscalculation for the regime led by Tshilombo Félix. For years, the government in Kinshasa has poured millions into attempts to eliminate Joseph Kabila Kabange without success. Despite facing charges that include lifting immunities, prosecution for treason, war crimes, and a death sentence handed down in absentia, the political strategy against him failed to isolate him from his networks. The goal was always political demonization, yet the outcome has flipped entirely. In Goma, Joseph Kabila Kabange stood surrounded by Corneille NANGA, Bertrand BISIMWA, and Moïse Nyarugabo. By engaging directly with the FRN through Joseph Kabila Kabange, the UN has effectively recognized him as a major interlocutor for resolving the crisis. The author argues that despite previous efforts to neutralize him, Joseph Kabila Kabange is regaining prominence in the discussions surrounding the Congolese crisis. It seems reality has foiled the calculations of Tshilombo Félix and those who support him. The balance of power and influence capacities are proving stronger than mere condemnations or political speeches directed against Joseph Kabila Kabange. He has become the symbol that cannot be buried by campaigns of denigration.
