During The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003), Sean Bean was so afraid of helicopters that he refused to fly to remote sets. Instead, he hiked for hours in full Boromir armor. while crew members would even spot him from the helicopter, marching alone up the mountainside.

Sean absolutely did not want to fly and said, look, I'll take the ski lift up and then I'll walk the rest of the way. We shot there for two or three days and our day would begin with everybody flying in the helicopters. And as we flew over at like, you know, 7.30 in the morning, we'd look down and there'd be this tiny black speck climbing the cliff. It was almost like a cliff face and it was Sean B.
