Elon Musk Forbes tunnel talk
Cities have been stuck in traffic for decades because the problem was solved wrong. We stack towers higher every year while forcing people onto flat roads, creating a system of 3D living and 2D movement that simply does not work. At a Forbes event, Elon Musk called digging tunnels to stack them like floors an obvious way to move people in three dimensions. He stated that building a transport system with tunnels going all over the place is the logical solution to reduce traffic. The Boring Company was created specifically to build these tunnels, yet it remains the only company taking this approach seriously. Musk encourages others to start tunneling companies because there is significant opportunity in the field.

Well, you know, I did say for the longest time that people ought to build tunnels, and then everyone thought I was joking. And then I was like, fine, we'll just create a company, a boring company, to build tunnels. Because this is an obvious way to reduce traffic to zero by going 3D with your transport system. Just as we go 3D with the buildings, it's obviously illogical to expect that you won't have traffic if you have buildings that are 3D and a transport system that is 2D. and everyone tries to go in and out of the 3D building at the same time. But if you have a transport network that is three-dimensional with tunnels going all over the place, then you can address any arbitrary level of traffic. Now, I encourage other people to start tunneling companies because the boring company is the only one, as far as I can tell, that's taking this seriously. It's boring to be the only boring company, right? Yeah. Honestly, there's a lot of opportunity in tunnels. There really is. It's quite hard work building these things. I hope other people do it too. Okay.
