Matt Walsh on child murder justice

There is a specific line in human behavior that, once crossed, means a person loses the right to ever walk free again. Matt Walsh, who hosts The Matt Walsh Show on the Daily Wire, laid out exactly where that line sits regarding a mother who methodically strangled her three children to death while their siblings watched in horror. He argues that from the perspective of justice, the internal state of the perpetrator becomes entirely irrelevant when such acts occur. It does not matter what a therapist says about the reasons behind the actions, nor does it matter if she was depressed, anxious, or actually mentally incompetent at the time; the outcome for society remains the same. She must be permanently isolated from society regardless of any therapeutic reasoning offered. Walsh takes this further by stating that claims of insanity or a total lack of control only strengthen the case for keeping her away forever. If the defense argues she was so insane she simply could not control herself, that she allegedly had no choice and was forced to strangle her own children, then this is even more reason for her permanent isolation from society. The assertion that a person who commits these deeds should receive the harshest punishment under the law should not be controversial. This standard applies regardless of whether she was mentally ill, taking medication, or neither. There are acts that a person can commit in life after which they should never again be free. These are deeds that cry out to heaven for retribution. Justice must be done, punishment must be imposed. And if killing three children, one's own small and vulnerable children, is not among such crimes, if the harshest punishment is not to be imposed for it, then it is generally unclear for what it should be imposed.
