Mark Cuban on leaving Shark Tank and selling the Mavs
di Tufail: Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban really said the birthdays are what got him. Missing one and telling himself he'd catch the next one turned into a mistake, and once that landed, the next business trip stopped carrying the same weight it used to. His kids and his family moved to the front, and he started asking himself what the point of doing this even was. The numbers behind the timing: 13, 16 and 19 when he sold the Mavs, a little bit older when he got out of Shark Tank. With them not far from being on their own, being there as much as he could became the thing. 🥹

Again, when you start feeling your own mortality and you start recognizing what's important, my kids, my family, that next business trip didn't seem nearly as important as it used to. And missing a birthday and telling myself, well, I'll be there for the next one, you know, became a mistake. And it was just like, okay, what's the point of doing this? You know, they were 13, 16, and 19 when I sold the Mavs, and a little bit older when I got out of Shark Tank. And, you know, it wasn't gonna be all that long until they were on their own. And I just wanted to be there as much as I could.
