US and Israel prep Iran strike options after midterms

    di Flint: Donald Trump

The midterms won't help Iran any. Trump could act right after they wrap, and US and Israeli forces are reportedly lining up strike options pending his call. He's weighing how to close this out: settle it big or hit them again. His own framing: "It's a question of when do I want to end it?" The floated scenario is a SHORT, INTENSE MILITARY CAMPAIGN. Meanwhile Iran's economy is in collapse: worthless currency, fuel shortages, oil exports halted, troops and citizens they can't pay. The pitch is to get something done before FAFO. That's the whole thing, obviously

America's Gulf allies on high alert as U.S. and Israeli forces reportedly prepare for another round of combat with Iran after the midterm elections. Foreign correspondent Jeff Paul is live in London for us with the latest. Hi, Jeff. Hey, John. Well, yeah, nothing is 100 percent certain just yet, but The Wall Street Journal is reporting U.S. officials have told several Gulf Arab countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign. Now, the idea is to degrade Tehran's strength and maybe force them back into negotiations. Our very own Jennifer Griffin reports preparations are being made to give the president options, but no indication any decision has been made by President Trump. So far, the U.S. has sent additional patriot systems to Israel, moved troops off of vulnerable bases in the Middle East, and is set to move an additional aircraft carrier strike group to the region. President Trump was asked about the possibility of new strikes, telling reporters, quote, I can't tell you, but anything is possible. THE FAMILY IS IN THE POSITION THE FAMILY IS IN THE POSITION I THINK IRAN WE ARE IN A VERY GOOD POSITION IT IS A QUESTION WHEN DO I Iran we in a very good position It a question when do I want to end it Simply a question when do I want to end it And they want to make a deal but they wanted to make a deal, but they like capping it along. Maybe they're waiting for the election or something, but that's not going to help. The election's not going to help. The president also referenced decimating Iran's military and their finances, saying they have inflation at the highest in the world. With strict sanctions in place and the current U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, many Iranians are struggling to buy everyday essentials. I decided to leave as frugally as possible. This is not going to cut back on my spending. I wanted to eliminate many of my usual expenses and do without a lot of things, but even then, still not enough. There's hardly anything left at the end of the month. Now, the alternative to new strikes would be to cut a deal with Iran to end the war. Qatari mediators have reportedly presented Iran with a new draft, and Tehran is expected to officially respond sometime by the end of the week. John. All right. We'll see what happens as of November 4th. Probably nothing until then. Jeff Paul for us. Jeff, thank you. Sandra?
