A Certain Magical Index

Kazuma Kamachi launched the A Certain Magical Index light novel series on October 10, 2004, under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. The story unfolds in Academy City, a futuristic metropolis where eighty percent of residents are students developing supernatural powers called espers through scientific training. This high-tech environment exists in parallel with a hidden world of magic that operates outside the city's laws yet frequently intrudes upon its streets.

Touma Kamijou serves as the protagonist, an average high school student whose only ability is the Imagine Breaker located on his right hand. This power cancels out any supernatural phenomenon it touches, whether it be a magical spell or an esper attack. His life changes drastically after he rescues Index Librorum Prohibitorum, a young nun carrying 103,000 forbidden grimoires implanted in her mind via hypnosis. These texts make her a primary target for magical organizations seeking to reclaim them.

The narrative weaves together conflicts between the scientific faction of Academy City and various magical groups from around the globe. While Touma interacts with numerous female characters who show romantic interest in him, the series prioritizes complex plotting over traditional harem tropes. The franchise continues to expand with new arcs and spin-offs, maintaining a massive global following among fans of science fantasy. [modifica]
