Informazioni
Columbia Pictures has been a cornerstone of Hollywood for over a century. It all started back on June 19, 1918, as the Cohn-Brandt-Cohn (CBC) Film Sales Corporation. Harry and Jack Cohn, along with their partner Joe Brandt, were the masterminds behind it. They officially rebranded as Columbia Pictures Corporation in January 1924, and that's the name that stuck.
The studio's iconic logo, the robed woman holding a torch, is inspired by the goddess Liberty herself, with Doris Doscher posing as the model. It’s a symbol that's become instantly recognizable, representing decades of filmmaking. From its early days on Hollywood's Poverty Row, releasing films like *More to Be Pitied Than Scorned*, Columbia quickly grew into one of the major studios by the mid-1930s.
Harry Cohn was a powerful force, leading the studio until his passing in 1958. Over the years, Columbia saw a few different owners. The Coca-Cola Company acquired it in 1982, and then in a major shift, Sony Corporation of America took over in November 1989. Today, Columbia Pictures operates as a vital part of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
