Part of Me

Katy Perry released "Part of Me" on February 13, 2012, as the lead single from her reissued album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. The track clocks in at 3 minutes and 35 seconds, blending dance-pop with a driving house beat. Perry penned the lyrics alongside Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Bonnie McKee to describe a woman reclaiming her independence after a breakup. Although many assumed the song targeted her recent divorce from Russell Brand, she stated it was actually written in early 2010 before their marriage ended.

The song achieved immediate commercial success by debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This marked Perry's seventh chart-topper in the US and made her the first artist to have three songs debut at number one from the same album cycle. It also entered the UK Singles Chart at number one, selling 79,079 copies in its first week. International markets responded similarly, with the track reaching the top five in Ireland and earning Platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry.

Ben Mor directed the accompanying music video, which premiered on MTV on March 21, 2012. Filmed at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in California, the clip features Perry cutting her hair short and enlisting in the Marines as a metaphor for resilience. The visual surpassed one billion views on YouTube, securing Perry's spot as the first artist with nine videos in the Billion Views Club. The song later served as the title track for her 2012 3D documentary film, Katy Perry: Part of Me. [modifica]
