The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan

Sixteen-year-old Alus Reigin walks into the Second Institute of Alpha not as a student, but as a ghost. He carries the title of the world's strongest Magicmaster after spending ten years on the front lines hunting Fiends and reclaiming territory for the nation of Alpha. His superiors refused to let him retire from active duty, so they struck a deal: Alus would enroll as a regular student while staying on extended leave. The condition was simple. He had to hide his legendary status and train two apprentices, Tesfia and Loki, to take his place.

Life at the academy forces Alus to balance mundane school duties with secret missions against Fiends. The narrative shifts gears when he uncovers Ambrosia, a drug that transforms humans into monsters. This discovery sparks a conspiracy that threatens both the school and the wider world. The story blends slice-of-life comedy with high-stakes action, often showing Alus effortlessly solving problems while trying desperately to stay under the radar.

The series started as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2015 before Hobby Japan published it under their HJ Bunko imprint on February 28, 2017. Ruria Miyuki provided the illustrations for the print run. As of late 2026, the main light novel series has reached 20 volumes in Japan. J-Novel Club licensed the English version, releasing the first translated volume in March 2019. [modifica]
